Met Allan at Leeds Rios and Holmfirth Picture House in my teens. One of the times I asked if he'd sign my gig ticket and he said only if I helped him pack up, so I carried his Hughes and Ketner off the stage with him haha.

I remember his work with one/several of the Gong incarnations.

Yet another sad loss. RIP Mr Holdsworth.

I hadn't heard anything about this until I saw the thread title.  What happened?  I can't find anything about it, presumably it was on social media?

Whatever the story, sad news.  His music was way beyond me but I always enjoyed the interviews I read and heard.  RIP.
His daughter Louise posted it on a FB group she runs a few hours ago. He hadn't been well for a while but had just started doing gigs again very recently.

Such a nice guy, what a shame... loved his instructional video and could never tell if he was on the biggest wind up ever.

I just found that picture of him with his family.  Looked like he had no hair, so presumably it was cancer?  Evil shit of a disease.

Ah sad news. Not really a fan of his music bit no one can argue that he was not a master of the guitar.

The greatest musician of my lifetime. Guitar solo at 4:50 but the whole track is beautiful.

That's such amazing playing. RIP Allan Holdsworth.

Holy shit! I can't believe it. He was incredible, I remember first hearing him on Bruford's One Of A Kind back in 1980 and being completely blown away. Truly shocked by this news :/

A genius - not just the technique, amazing though that was - he had such a vision and created such beautiful music. In a league of his own. Struggling to take in this terrible news at all. :(

It's tragic loss at a relatively young age. He was a true innovator and has, and will continue to inspire others.
