May has called an urgent press conference at 11:15 - speculation she's going to try and call an early general election to get a mandate for Brexit. Or nuke North Korea.

I'm betting on a life peerage for Corbyn for services to the Tory party.......

Well, why not? Calling for a national vote to shore up political power certainly worked spectacularly for her predecessor...

I think it is more to get a mandate for Brexit - if she wins by a landslide on a pro-Brexit ticket then she can tell Mandelson and co to shut up. If she loses then Brexit could be off .. this will be the ugliest election ever if it happens.

See, this is what happens when you ask people what they want.

Brexit and a labour grass roots support that keeps Corbyn in top spot time and time again.

    Wants vs needs.

Maybe she's read the thread about her and seen which way the wind's blowing.

Corbyn getting replaced by anyone competent was too high a risk  65 majority Tory government incoming.

Not a good time to have investments rooted in Sterling, methinks...

Bottom line is: they *really* want to get a big majority to enable them to force some real nasties through. Time to rid themselves of the reistance in the house, while all the opposition parties squabble about... everything.

It's an admission that the 'will of the people' mandate was rhetoric and nothing more with a small majority.

Ye goodness. I'm off for a three hour interview now and my mind is on anything but finance and the Civil Service.

On the flip side, a kicking in a GE will force Labour to change.

At least this could be the end of Corbyn. Even his grass roots support will surely see the light if he gets slaughtered in an election.
