I fancy an analogue synth.

What's Hot
Thinking about a full size MS20, a Doepfer A100 mini modular or a couple of Moog Mother 32's

Budget circa £800-1200.

Any comments or suggestions? I don't have a particular sound in mind, I just fancy a bit of old school knob twiddling and patching.

Do t be tempted with anything too old, (I def recommend new or nearly new) keeping old systems that workable and usable is a constant battle :/

I have an original MS20 that has always worked perfectly and never even needs tuning or calibrating. My SH-101 was like that too, though I never much liked it as a synth.

On the other hand my Polivoks needs to be left on for ten minutes before it even thinks about making a note with a pitch, and even then has to be calibrated every time you use it. Don't think I've ever had an old synth actually break on me though.

Sadly, the #1 sensible suggestion is to be a bit patient and wait for the Behringer Minimoog knock-off to arrive (around £450, I think).

That said, the Minimoog architecture is (relatively) limited, and you can cover more territory with the Xenophone Hypersynth, MFB Dominion, etc. Bass station II or Minibrute are simpler, but decent, as is the new Monologue from Korg (which seems more 'musical' than the MS-20, which I found better for making noises, FX and perc sounds.)

Left-field modern-but-vintage choice is an Oberheim SEM with any MIDI controller keyboard.

I spent hours watching videos on that, bought one and haven't touched it.  :#

Lots of good suggestions, some one which aren't matching my requirement for patching, but keep them coming.

    Thanks all.

I wouldn't hold your breath. They showed a prototype at Superbooth, but I don't think they have even confirmed that it is going to be an actual product yet, let alone when, or how much. It's very much down to the whim of Uli Behringer.

Personally I can't be doing with Eurorack stuff, it's all too fiddly. Plus if I was spending that much on a synth, I'd want a polysynth/

Uli would have too much egg on his face if he abandoned the Minimoog clone now. He claimed it's just $200 of parts, asked how Moog could justify the D's pricetag. He is going to do the right thing to give us the same tone for five hundred bucks. After Superbooth he claimed that the developers are just tweaking it now.

You are right that the form factor makes it look very fiddly to use compared to a Model D.

True, but ISTR that the Behringer clone has some patching for eurorack integration? If the OP wants patching weirdness, isn't the Make Noise O Coast the obvious choice? More patch than twiddle.

Seeing as no one has said it yet - ProOne.

As hands on as it gets
Not overly complex - 2 OSC, filter, Envelope, basic sequencer
Patching is limited but limited to stuff you will use and understand what is going on.
    Sounds like nothing else.
    On budget (!)

    Just a suggestion.
