.... bloody good!

I dont care if everyone hates me! Good songs, good production and well played! It has its obvious influences but I like some of the 60's and 70's feel.

I wonder if it was James Bay, whether people would like it more?

Come on, give the poor lad a chance - he's only 23!

I reckon if John Mayer did Sweet Creature, a lot of people would love it!

Who is he then? I saw a poster advertising his "debut album", so why was he famous before releasing anything?

It is a decent album, would be interested to find out how much of the writing or arranging was actually him though. As somebody else said, he is pretty young so if you ignore the One Direction past, that's promising in itself that there's a popular guitar backed young singer
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

If you don't watch much TV or Radio you can easily miss these things.

I know his name and that he was in a boy band, but I couldn't pick him out of a lineup or name any of his songs.

I did actually hear him interviewed about making the album while I was driving down to London the other week.

The anecdotes he offered largely centred around how great the band were and helped him learn the songs and taught him how to play stuff.

Sign of the times is SUCH a good song.  Don't care how Bowie-esque it is. Awesome tune. I absolutely hate One Direction and any manufactured music from X-Factor as it has contributed to the downfall of decent music. But fair play to Harry. What a tune.

Yeah I am. Or was. Just googled him, so know who he is now. I have heard of One Direction obviously. My kids (12 and 10) don't listen to that kind of music though. Well, not yet anyway!

It's product. The record company have a hugely valuable 'artist' on it's hands with the potential for a long and lucrative career if handled correctly. Going back to the early seventies for influences is a smart move. The surface sheen is decent enough, I don't sense any real depth to it.

Don't worry, they're past that stage by now :).

My ten-year-old has lost interest in One Direction - but she's actually not that interested in Harry Styles either, I think his new stuff is if anything too 'grown-up' sounding for her.

To be fair, One Direction did get a lot better as they went on - if you think you hate them you should at least try listening to 'Four', the last album (ironically!) as a five-piece - it's not at all bad, there are some good songs on it even if the 'band' themselves only had a minor hand in writing it at best.

I've said this before but I see them as something of a 21st-century Monkees - they were also derided as a manufactured band initially but in the end had a bit more credibility.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

    "Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson

Haha! Yes I also really like his early stuff. There is some brilliant stuff that really (ahem) captures the zeitgeist.
