That's an Atomic CLR (Neo version).

  • Looks nice. I see you've been using a QSC wedge before getting the Atomic - how do you think the two compare?

Both are great .. in my experience they are very close but not surprisingly the CLR has a better "amp in the room" feeling to it. The K8 with the bass cut on is definitely 85% similar to the CLR.

    Nice.

it was my favourite sound when I tried a few out, but the price and weight (not sure it the one I tried was neo) put me off

what is the weight in that one?
    Red ones are better.

It's very good indeed shame my neighbours are not that happy now

I believe it's 36lbs so quite ok actually.

The QSC is quite close though after the whole weekend comparing them.

Probably a dumb question, but if you use stereo effects, how does that work with a single FRFR cab? Or do you just use mono at home?

Can I ask why you have gone down the FRFR route and not the vale amp route?
I am moving to Helix Lt from a pedal board effect route, and am trying to decide about the amp....?
(currently have a Carr Sportsman and wondering about the FRFR alternative)
Any advice appreciated.....can't test these as they are 200+ miles away from me.
    thanks

    Jon

I think it the FRFR alternative leverages the amp simulation from the AX8 (just like the Helix). The valve amp route is also good but will colour the sound with it's own circuitry / valves flavour etc.

A good FRFR will reproduce with some fidelity what the AX8 / Helix will be putting out in regards to simulating different power amps / valves etc. The ones I've been trying so far are also quite lightweight .. the QSC K8 is very light and with the right settings strikingly close to the CLR. The CLR is still light for it's size (36lbs) and reproduces the sounds a bit closer to a real amp in the room (at least to my ears!).

    Hope that helps?

The Ultimate solution is the Mission Gemini FRFR cab which is a stereo cab with 2 speakers but also has a clever mood knob which allows you to keep the full FRFR sound or wind it back towards the darker "real guitar cab " sound or anything in between
Something 50/50 PRODUCES THE MOST WONDERFUL SOUND
