how do you do strumming?

i just cannot do it to save my life (and believe me i have tried for years to be able to strum smoothly).

it always ends up sounding like a rusty saw blade.

would love to be able to play stuff like there is a light that never goes out but my attempts at strumming are awful.

how do you learn to do it smoothly like johnny marr makes it look effortless.

thanks octatonic but at the moment i don't have a guitar amp and only have my laptop camera to record with. i will give it a try though as my guitar is a semi acoustic gretsch that may well be loud enough to hear my cat strangling sounds. apologies again for not checking if anyone else had asked the exact same question before posting

I don't need to hear you playing through an amp and a laptop camera will be fine.
