Bourgeois JOM

What's Hot
Been listening to a lot of Joan Shelley and Nathan Salsburg plays one of these JOM's - has a really sweet tone.
Anyone had the pleasure of playing of these, looks a bit like the Martin M36.

ah BL that would be one of these -
please forgive the recorded quality or lack of it - straight into my laptop (surface) noise 'n all.
best to wear h/phones or good sound system.

I picked up a JOM for gigging, pre-Pantheon (non cutaway) ex the Messe Frankfurt demo model (the NAMM of Europe) in '99, pretty much unknown this side o' the pond back then but I'd played an OM of theirs a touring guitarist had, so took the chance.
Sure am glad I did, great sound and feel in an American way and is an equal to my Lowden's with it's 'European' vibe.
The extra depth handles some deep tuning I use nicely.

Having not played one before, that has a lot more mid-range honk than I was expecting.

That was a very astute move you made back in '99 I'd say.
Regards, the sound there seems to be more definition in the treble notes for me than in a standard OM and a lovely sustain too.

just listened to u'r posted video BL - that is not a good recording audio wise - quite metallic

heres a fair recording of one fingerpicked.-

    https://youtu.be/0A8kfCrVgW0

yeah it's Dread deapth so loads of mid and low oomph.
Thats one of the reasons I bought it - taking it into low tuning - B's and C's on the bottom end reduces the tension of those strings = less energy = lower volume = imbalanced sound across the strings.
Add to that the OM braceing on a voiced top - perfect for my needs.
Solution - get a deep bodied OM 'n sling a set of 13-56 on it, you can hear how it works out in my vids.

oh PS, my headstock is the same as this one - a shovelhead, instead of Bourgies 'Snakehead' - there's a great story about that if you're interested.

yeah BL - kinda 'American (not so) Primitive' goin on there
what if I was to tell ya the Bourgie JOM WAS to be the PRS’s foray into ‘acoustics’ - viz -
    http://www.gansz.org/David/Guitars/Schoenberg/PRS/prsa7.jpg

Dana designed JOM model - note Danas ’snakehead’ headstock - and have a look at PRS’s.
In essence the JOM is a SJ - Small Jumbo.
The project fell through - something about the scale of factory production / quality.
more at bottom of page here -

here's a thought I just had based on the M Simpson thread and comments bout the 'Signature' models.
As the Bourgeois JOM was designed as Smiths first foray into acoustic land back in the early '90's.It would be interesting to hear the views of experienced players comparing the two for sound and feel in a a blind test.
I did a quick search - 2 in the country - of the 'real' ones, 2 - well that was a success and 1 of the Korean ones in guitarguitar - 1.
If things had went differently Mr Simpson et all would have been lauding praises on Bourgeois guitars - rolls eyes.
    just thought I'd say

I currently own a jomc.ive had it about 5 years.i find it a brilliant all rounder.i also had a madi/adi 00 sig which was very flat sounding by  comparison to my ears for some reason. You wont go wrong with a jom.
