Better than that all star Smoke on the Water.. (not that that's saying much  )

Also note Spinal Tap in that mix ... if you can spot them

Love it! I had the associated compilation album at age 11. This video raises two points in my mind:

    1) It's interesting how many male rock singers have similar vocal registers (tenor?)
    2) I want a Charvel.

It's much, much better than the all star Smoke on the Water cover!

I liked it at the time and I think it holds up well.  It's not just a big mess, it's actually really well edited so the right singers sing the right parts and the guitar "solo" sounds interesting and flows pretty seamlessly (I've always especially liked the bit Buck Dharma does at the end).

Sad that some of those guys are no longer with us.

I wish more of todays bands sang in the same ranges>>>>
Y&T's Dave Meniketti was a good foil for Dio and I liked the other vocalists too - especially Halford and Tate

    Some good guitar performances
The making of Stars is a fun watch too

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

I love this track!  the guitar solos are amazing, especially Yngwie's.

Here's a present that I had lurking on an old HD.

The guitar solos in the video @FelineGuitars posted is different than the recorded version.  I think some of the solos on that vid are better than the ones on the album version.

the voice isn't the only thing they've got in common ...

    the identikit hairstyle
    the identikit catwalk clothing
and those hearing aids were rather large; heavy too, if they had to hold them in place all the time

i seriously couldn't tell the singers apart, and whilst the guitar solos were great, I had no idea who was playing at any given time

Some of the solos on that video weren't the best and some were excellent.  Yngwie was the perfect blend between melody and fast shredding.

That was good fun.  Given how bad everyone's hair was Geoff Tate's stood out as being a particular bad barnet. Bald as a coot he is now.

Plenty of well known faces there - and of course the late great (too small a word) Dio. But also plenty of "who?" and I listened to a lot of that kind of stuff in my youth. Nice to see Davey and Adrian from Maiden there.

But that's the thing, i couldn't tell who was who. They all looked and sounded the same*. Regardless of what the text said on the screen.

    * other than the short haired bloke wearing a leotard. But if you closed your eyes, he still sounded like all the others.

From memory they cut the iron maiden harmony part out of the final released version. A pity.

They may have all sounded the same, but they all sounded great! :)

I was just starting out on guitar during this period, and didn't really realise the majestic playing of these guys. I need to go away and do some revision on people like Brad Gillis. @FelineGuitars that documentary (rockumentary) is cool, cheers!
