So, I have a trusty DXR10 that I use with both Kemper and Helix and it's a fine bit of kit. I've no problems using it live and have done many times. At home in my little studio though it leaves me a bit cold. It's hard to describe why, I just find it a bit immediate and unforgiving. I've looked at the Atomic CLR, but that's a grand these days. The Mission looks the part but I've read some mixed reviews, plus it's a lot of cash. I'd have bought a Matrix FR12 if they'd had them in stock.
Enter the Red Sound RS-LG12. I've been keeping an eye on these for a while as they've been getting some, mostly Italian, enthusiastic reviews (I notice Marco Fanton has started using one). There are also some good reviews on the Kemper forum. So, I bagged one of the B-stock items from Thomann... and here it is... matches the Kemper, the shrubbery and everything:
And it's bloody brilliant. It's breathed a whole new life into my relationship with the Kemper - it's so much more like having the actual amp in the room.

i like my DXR10 but the angle shape isn't great for stacking things on top!

Its not a full FRFR but more of a GRFR - whatever that means !

How did it work out for you ?
Thanks for getting back to me mate. Ive been playing thru a normal 1x12 cab (Zilla) and a DXR10; the latter sounds good but digital and clinical at times...
Ive ordered a passive Red Sound from Thomann due Monday.
Whats your thoughts on the PC vs Red Sound ?
I was gonna try buy a PC+ and had a brief play at GG, but it didnt sound great. Couldve been the Kemper profiles they had loaded though...

- lovely green leather, clearly hand stitched and crafted. Very impressive.
- bigger than i thought.
- plugged in the Kemper and tried some clean profiles with verb and a Moog delay. Superb - literally superb. Less harsh or digital than most FRFRs I’ve played.
- this is theoretically a GRFR I think (!)
- hands down the best speaker I’ve heard with a Kemper. Sounds like a real amp in the room, but with that great FRFR 3D spread.
- Mine is a passive model, and easily loud enough for our covers band.
i took a risk ordering it blind, but it is superb, and I’m delighted. I never even plugged in the mighty Redplate tonight... what greater praise can I offer ?
