I didn't think I'd ever sell this one, but I just don't play it much these days, and there are lots of other lovely looking things catching my eye on here these days, so...

This is a Gretsch G5128. It's the Gold Sparkle version of the 5120 line, which in itself makes it awesome. But it gets better. This one has been upgraded with:
- TV Jones Pickups (I don't know the exact model however if you tell me how to identify them I'm happy to check!)
- New wiring loom
- Compton bridge
- Ebony bridge base
- Grover imperial tuners
- Chet Atkins pick guard
- Gold sparkle truss rod cover
- Stagg hard case

It's in excellent condition - only a couple of very tiny scratches/dings on the sides and some surface scratching on the back - have a look at the pics. And plenty of life left in the frets.

The guitar is in Leeds - would prefer pickup but am willing to ship at buyer's cost.

The upgrades are £450+ new I guess.   So I'll price mine at £675. [EDIT: will accept £600]

I would ignore ebay asking prices as a reference.
But I wish you luck with the sale

A very interesting looking Gretsh and some rather unique mods. What sets the 512X series apart from the rest of the Electromatic range and particularly the 5120 of the same era were the single coil pickups used. They are very popular with some but personally, I've never liked them. These TVJ's look like a great upgrade and from the photos, it looks like all the work has been very nicely done.

Its exceptionally tough to price a guitar like this, even stock it wouldn't be easy but I know I'd choose this over a new 5420 any day. Very good luck
with finding it a new home.

    That looks epic!

Pickups look like Magnatrons (due to the non-adjustable pole pieces).

I agree.  Oddly enough, these pickups were designed to sound like noiseless Dynasonics.  Bright, and cutting.  Single coil like tone.
The original pickups would have been Dearmond 2000's, which also were designed to sound similar to Dynasonics (but with much simpler construction)....so a similar-ish tone after the upgrade.

Original pickups fetch £150-£250 used.  Same as the TV Jones.

Best of luck with the sale.

It is indeed! I'd thought about adding a Gretsch V bigsby but never got around to it (and tbh it doesn't need it).
