    Hi, when you say "lower frets" do you mean vintage frets?  Also, what is the neck profile like - slim C, rounded C, V etc?
    Cheers!

    They are thin and low, have been recently crowned and polished so nice and smooth, but they are lower than I'm used to. Whether it's that they've been worn down over the years or if it's a vintage fret wire I can't say. The neck is very fast, but I put a lot of force into my bends so my fingers rub too much on the rosewood fretboard for my playing style.

    The neck profile would match the c shape in this diagram.

    Also, trade option for other cool guitars - re: the frets/fretboard, I got some gorgomyte, turns out fretboard was quite dry which is why my fingers were catching (I'm used to maple) so it's a lot smoother now.

  • On advice of @Strangefan I've measured the frets. I got approx .076-.078" x 0.32-0.35" so it would seem they are definitely vintage spec with about a quarter of a millimiter of wear. Hope that clarifies. It's got a long way to go before needing a re-fret.

    According to fender, this is the vintage spec:
    • 6230: The smallest fret wire found on older Fender necks .078″ x .043″

  • Def sounds like it doesn't need a refret :)

    Cheers @Dominic. ;

    I've just recorded a few clips so you can hear what it sounds like, if you're still thinking about this. It's a seriously good guitar - but I don't need two seriously good strats and my heavily invested jap squier is staying grab this before somebody else does, they're not easy to find in this shape. A beat up one of the goldstar variety just sold for £600 last week...
