Hi just joined....
I've played the guitar on and off for years then a few weeks ago
finally decided to learn to play the piano properly instead of just
playing the black keys, so bought a cheapo beginner's keyboard from
Argos. Very hard indeed to make progress,
then suddenly stumbled on a YouTube video saying that if one had played
the guitar before learning the piano would be very easy which made me
highly skeptical.
Neverthess persevered and to my amazement found I was soon able to play
some old jazz stuff in next to no time. So immediately got into
Audacity and now having a great time with one or two recordings
which seem to sound ok, though still making mistakes with the left hand
which obviously just needs practice.
Not sure what to do and where to go next, so wondered if anyone else has been
down the same route and could offer some tips and advice....
Thanks

Playing guitar has definitely helped my keyboard playing.
Chord structures on the keyboard are generally easier for me to visualise compared to a fretboard.
I'm the other way round finding it difficult to remember where the chord keys for the left hand on the keyboard are, but the best thing I find is that there's so much freedom for the right hand especially for the fingers which are always so cramped up I finally get lazy and strum most of the time.
Have you done any recordings yet ? I use Audacity (link below) which is really excellent and I've recorded several amateur efforts already, though it's hard to find your way round Audacity at first if you haven't used it before. But it's the speed at which I picked it all up was really amazing in probably about a month or so, so I think you and anyone else curious to learn more could find the first two links below very interesting indeed !
If you've made any recordings I'd like to hear them if it's possible to upload them on here....
Keep in touch
The guy I found in the YouTube link below is excellent and explains things really well, so I can't recommend him highly enough for guitarists knowing nothing about the piano....

Download Audacity link....

Then when you know what sort of player you are as outlined in the first link above you could have a look at some of these recording options below, but I would think there might be simpler ways for starters which others I'm sure could recommend....

How to play piano by James Rhodes
http://www.jamesrhodes.tv/shop/how-to-play-piano/
Its aimed at getting you to play a simple piece in 6weeks from no musical background at all. I'm at the learning the notes on the keyboard and how they relate to the score at present, but it seems good.
MrsLostSon saw him give a talk about piano playing and mental health (he was sectioned at one point I believe) and came away with the book.
Ill keep you posted...
