FS/FT Hamer SS Custom (£475) - Traded

This time last year I had 2 electric guitars and now I have 9. I have no need for all these guitars and I have decided to let them go and they are all going for the same price I paid for them.  These are all used and fairly old so don’t expect any of them to be in mint condition. These are however only superficial scraps and dinks and don’t affect playability or sound in any way.

Trades:  I would like to to see if anyone is interested in this guitar and has an old closet queen tucked away. USA or Japan guitars only, late 80s or early 90s. Strat body only. Jackson/Charvel Dinky type guitars, Ibanez RG of any description or ESP M series or Horizon. I can put in some cash for the right guitar. Kramer an option as well.

Hamer Steve Stevens 1 Custom £450 £650 £600 £550 £500 £475 TRADED
From the vault of Chateau de HarrySeven.  I got offered this guitar from Mr HSeven and since I had few others which I absolutely love I thought I would try it out.  This is an 1988 set neck custom (block inlays and ebony fingerboard) in black cherry metal flake finish I was told but it has faded in few places.  Hardly any fret wear so I am not sure if it has had a refret job done at some point but I might be wrong.  It is actually a really nice neck.  The reason this is not for me is that all my Hamers are super strats and this feels nothing like it so its not really for me.  I was really hoping it would be but its not to be.  It comes with a case but Floyd bar is missing.  And back cover for Floyd Rose is also missing.

Pickups are original and has an interesting configuration.  There are volume and tone pot but 2 pickup selectors.  I am not entirely sure how they work but I think the three way switch selects the neck and bridge pickup in some form and the two way is an on/off for the middle pickup.

It has good few dings in the finish which I have tried to capture in the photos but I am not sure how well it comes out in the pictures.  There is a crack at the back of the head stock typical for a guitar this age with a locking nut.  I don’t think its an issue but will try to capture good photos for anyone interested.

An update, I have taken the guitar to a luthier/ tech to have it looked at.  https://www.mcintyreguitars.com/ and you can have a look at the client list to see if this guy is trust worthy.  He said there had probably been a repair but it was fine only problem is that it had been finished badly which is understandable since the paint job is not ordinary, specially with the sparkle in the finish.  Chris is clearing up the repair and having it repainted for me.  I knew before that this guitar was worth more than I advertised it for but only wanted to pass it on for the same as I got it from @HarrySeven. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; I dont know how much this refinish is going to cost but I will pass that cost on and I know some people might find that unacceptable but no one is forcing them to buy the guitar.  I am just making sure that the guitar is good and I am not selling a faulty item.  I will update price and pictures ones I have the guitar back.

Guitar back from repair.  Picks of neck and hopefully people can see the sparkle.

Those Hamer SS1 models are brilliant. I owned one for a bunch of years - it was the 2nd electric I ever owned!
The Floyd should be a Schiller-Made original - very sought after. And it has a Gibson scale length and all-mahogany construction - unusual for a Floyyd-equipped guitar.
    Red ones are better.

  • (As a 1988 it will have an OFR, and the neck is maple set into mahogany body just sayin' ;)

The serial number is 820000 and the the Floyd Rose has just that on it and looks almost identical to the one on my 1986 Chap. If anyone wants more pics just give me a shout. I have no idea what the pickups are but I am sure @Bennyboy-UK could tell us

Yep, they are Hamer Slammer units, made by dimarzio - both the HB and the SCs. The later HBs (like these ones) are a fraction hotter than the earlier ones. The single coils are actually very interesting, they are build on one bobbin of the HB, and have dirty great long pole piece magnets protruding under the bobbin. They sit on quite long legs, and the pickup cavity is deep. The pickups are connected into threaded metal recesses which are set in the body, nice construction quality.

i might buy this  although i need another SS1 like a hole in the head. I have one that I've never even got around to actually playing, which is an 88 standard in white. Don't count on me. I'm unreliable!

I recognise that stringing technique anywhere. H7 likes to leave his balls showing.
    Be seeing you.

I'm not buying I'm afraid, but that SS1 looks fantastic.  What a great design it was.

  • Great design, and a great price too. I'd suggest that this SS1 Custom with matching painted headstock is more like £800 of anyone's money.
