Chrome covers, mid-to-late 1960s.

Hope skippy doesn't mind me using the photos from his original advert here:

I will take and add a couple more photos on Monday.

(Bought these to put on my LP replica, but I managed to find a pair of earlier pickups with nickel covers, so these are now surplus.)

Price: £375 shipped (UK)

Sale suspended as it now seems these are altered with 3/4 conductor wiring on one pickup. I'll get to the bottom of this before relisting.

In my opinion, both pickups have had their covers removed at some point.

Green plastic conductor insulation is visible through the metal braid screening on both output cables.

I am surprised that the covers are chrome plated. In the photographs, the bridge height adjustment wheels and the pickup height adjustment screws look like nickel.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Seems likely on the covers, and other FBers reckon that the pickup wire should be a black 'waxy' insulation within the shield. Not sure what to do...

Factory originality has already been lost. Therefore, you have nothing more to lose by replacing the current, non-original output cables.

The wear on the labels suggests a fair amount of handling.

The solder on the fretboard suggests the covers were replaced in situ, so the wire work and cover work may not have happened at the same time

  • The good thing is the #2 screws are slot, so that would be late 60s.

the ones holding the baseplate on?  They are slot heads on the 73-74 I have here currently.

Same as this, patent number stickers with T-top bobbins.

Slot heads started in the later part of the 60s , until the 70s (til approx. 75) on pat # stickered pups...........

@WezV has your 73/74 braided lead wire or the grey plastic stuff?

I've had a few 70s SGs that's had pat # stickered pups, with grey plastic lead wires, definitely stock..............its almost like they ran out of braided wire for a time.........I see these grey plastic wired pups on ebay from time to time as well...........not common though.
