H9 and it's EQ compressor

hotpickupshotpickups Frets: 1819
Sorry if its a stupid question but..... I noticed the Eventide H9 MAX has a compressor EQ. I thought compressors need to be at the front of the chain but my H9 will be at the end before the delay being controlled by MIDI. Have I missed something ? Or are they 2 completely separate things i.e. a compressor and a H9 EQ Compressor

  • You can pre and post wire your H9. I.e have it at the beginning and end of your chain if you so wish. You can then choose where it is per patch.

Except mine won't be in any loop of my ES 5. My chain is ES 5 output into H9 – Timeline and amp/s (stereo). So can't put it in a loop when being used as stereo I believe. Presets are controlled by MIDI

    You’ve misunderstood

read the manual Re Pre/post switching
    Red ones are better.

I won't be able to do pre/post b cause I'm in stereo and the ports will be used up. That's hoe it is for my möbius anyway :)

  • You are correct - you can't run pre/post and stereo routing at the same time - there aren't enough ports. So if you have a compressor on the H9, and running it in Stereo into 2 amps or in their loops you have the compressor at the back end. You could in theory do it with an ES-8 by sending from Loop 7, splitting the signal, into the amps, returned in stereo, then H9 in Loop 8 - then move loop 8 to the front using a mixer (I think) - but you have a es5 so it's a moot point, and I'm not even sure it would work. Best to just to turn down compression on the H9 algo, and use it as an EQ only and add a comp at the front end

Ah right ok. That's what I thought really. Sometimes feel I could do without a comp altogether sometimes :)
