I'm playing 2 hours of classical guitar at a wedding in 8 days.. The only issue is that I don't have 2 hours of music in my repertoire!
I didn't think this gig was booked having not heard from the client (only spoken about the booking through someone else, who never gave me a clue that it was actually happening). I got the dreaded phone call yesterday and it turns out I am indeed playing.

I didnt turn it down because I'm confident i can put something together. My question is does anyone know of any books containing a decent amount of music suitable for a wedding for solo classical guitar?

Cheers :)

Learn one hour of repertoire and play it twice. No-one will even notice.

    /|\ That.

To many you will be background music, don't be offeneded but it's not a concert. The wedding guests will be chatting and socialising. You can even do modern pop songs in the classical style if you want the odd head to turn. Start with something accomplished and have something nice to end with. To Joe public the likes of Cavatina is all they will recognise (so include that if nothing else). the likes of 'Lily was here' by Dave stuart/Candy Dulfer might get recognised and anything that has featured on a TV advert in the last few years too.

Dress the part, be professional, self contained and take the fee. You've been selected because you can do this and possibly the brides parents thing it's a good idea, ask if there is anything in particular they would like and see if you have time to feature it. Chances are you'll be home early evening or free to do another evening gig if it comes up.

The grade books have nice sounding pieces you could sit and read.

  • Thanks guys. Any more suggestions for long, happy tunes? Most of my repertoire is a bit depressing haha

  • The Classical Guitar Compendium - Bridget Mermikedes has loads of well known classical pieces transcribed for guitar.

Most classical guitar tunes can be played twice without the average wedding punter even noticing anyway. That'll double your set!
