Last month was new guitar month. Didn’t start out to be but I found I had a bit of leave at work and the devil makes work for idle hands so I ended up with a few new toys. I’ve only just had time to put them up.
Gibson Custom ES335 Dot Reissue 2009 in vintage sunburst.
Unmarked and plays great. Can’t fault it.
Little bit of flame to it too.

I’ve only ever had a 5120 in the past and this was a bit of an impulse buy (they all are if I’m being honest). Sounds incredible, and with no screeching feedback like the 5120.
Only downside is the comfort pad on the back is very worn, and unfortunately the current Fender made replacements don’t fit. Better get the sewing-machine out.
Oh yes and that bloody floaty bridge, where’s me double sided tape...

Couldn’t go past this NOS for the price. I’d wanted one of the metal fronted ones for ages but saw this at a tenth of the price and thought it was worth a punt.
I’m really impressed. Very well made, the pickups sound superb and after a bit of a setup it plays great.
Really nice branded padded bag with it too.

I find some of the new Zemaitis look a bit plain without the metal or pearl front, but that simple herringbone works really well.

I’ll swap it out just for you
So, which one, so far, is the one yu would pick up first to play ?
This week I have been mostly playing the piano, just been retuned and I'm brushing up on Christmas songs ahead of the family coming round.
Guitar wise I'm really enjoying the Zemaitis.
I don't have many 24 fret guitars so it's a novelty at the minute. I can't get over how well put together it is.
Really tall frets though, doesn't affect playability but you just notice they're a bit taller than my other guitars.
The humbuckers sound really good, I had bought a set of Mules to put in it, thinking they would be the weak link. They sound like a nice set of Dimarzios, quite high output.
I haven't fixed the Gretsch bridge yet, but once that's done I'll probably play that a bit more as that thing sounds and plays great, but any bends past the 12th fret mean the bridge wanders off along with the tuning.
Maybe a heavier string gauge would help.
