What if we had to pay £0.5 to start a topic?

What's Hot
We would have less content, but would we have less substance?

Would we be able to weed out the nonsensical rubbish? Like this topic?

Perhaps there could be a sort of lottery, where the posting fees are pooled and then apportioned out to topic starters based on how good their threads are.

I'd make out like a bandit.

Don’t forget he’d be making a £49.50 profit if he can get to 20 pages. What a winner.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

  • Imagine if just off topic areas were chargeable and people started just to post on guitar related stuff

Can you imagine the way that would distort postings? We’d have serious threads containing even more un-related twaddle.

Any form of monetarisation will affect the format and content. One of the beauties of this forum is that it is not channelled by sponsorship, or packed our with advertising.

It would be the old days of ‘payola’ all over again. The little guys couldn't afford to speak. Only the rich and powerful would reign. Endless conversations about boutique pedals and flame top Les Pauls. Corporations would buy a thread to promote their over-priced wares and the Russians would infiltrate and start tampering with favourable comments about Japanese guitars.
I reserve my right to write.

You'd just end up with a handful of very long threads which have been hijacked time and again for new topics.

    A Free press , :)

I love looking at the 21st century, and seeing how much control is held by corporations.  This is the aspect is 50s and 60s science fiction that they got right.
    quite frightening in many respects,
the way that the internet is being controlled these days, it might be worth breaking out the printing presses again

You'd have to have 50p for a perfectly servicable thread, £1 for one made in the USA, and £3 for a custom shop, not to mention £10 for a "true historic" thread made with original moans about young people, from the 60s.
You are the dreamer, and the dream...
