I reckon I must be the closest to it.......  11 miles from the epicentre as the crow flies.

    Anyone nearer ?

Edit; they've updated the location.  I'm now 14.9 miles away.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

There's enough green-belt development around here for a magnitude 8 quake to go entirely unnoticed.

  • I probably live about 30 or so miles from the epicentre - I'd popped out in the car, went to a neighbouring Wetherspoons for a meal and a drink and started seeing all the craziness on Facebook. Missed it whilst in the car it seems.

It's the pretty (HaHa!) little market town just north of Luton.

    Christ!
That's a hell of an earthquake if you ended up nearly 4 miles away.

I’ve got to be honest, I think a lot of people are laying it on a bit thick with their descriptions in the press...  I’m pretty close and I barely noticed it.  Pugsley was just jumping onto the sofa and I heard a bang - just one.  It wasn't particularly loud - say a tennis ball bouncing off the window, but it was strange in that there didn't seem to be a direction to it - it was just everywhere.
My initial though was that the dog had hit something and I looked behind me but he was fine.  Then I discussed with Mrs Fab if a bird might have flown into the window, then she said "the window sill is shaking!".  I didn't feel anything from the sofa and the shaking stopped quickly.  I wondered, then tried to visit the British Geological Survey website, which was unresponsive.  It was then that I thought it might have been an earthquake.

I've seen reports full of hyperbole "I thought the house was falling down !!" etc.

    FFS.
