I agree.  I didn’t find the “gas the Jews” comment particularly hysterical, but that’s just me.  The rest of it I thought was really funny.  I do find the court’s decision very worrying.  He must surely win his appeal or the likes of Frankie Boyle and his ilk must be banned as ‘non-approved material’.

Its Ridiculous. If you can be found guilty of a hate crime for a joke (and I mean essentially a victimless joke, not we verbally assaulted someone and are now saying its a joke), then its a sad time we live in.

Ricky Gervais' new stand up thats on netflix hits the nail on the head. He says something about looking into the deeper meaning of an offensive to joke to see who the really joke is about. Its not taking the piss out of jewish people, its taking the piss out of hitler and nazis. He wanted to make his gf's dog into the most disguting, horrible thing he could think of, which was  nazi. Thats who he's taking the piss out of.

Frankie Boyles said far worse stuff over the years.

The law's an ass. It's not even a freedom of speech issue. It's the right to act like a twat - he's hardly a right wing nutjob and I'd love to know who he's upset. At worst its simply bad taste humour. John Cleese better watch out.

Go onto Facebook and you can see people ranting about migrants, Christians, Jews etc. Very offensive and threatening stuff and yet the police aren't interested.

I feel absolutely certain this will be turned over on appeal. Not least because the courts don't want to be inundated with cases brought by people who've been offended.

Utterly ridiculous. If a judge can't distinguish between this and real hate then it's going to be a tough future.

The ruling deliberately ignores the context of the joke and focuses solely on the subject matter. It's a shocking decision.
