Musikraft Brazilian Walnut?

What's Hot

Has anyone had (or come across) this as a fretboard wood. I'm after a new Strat neck and this seems a good option to avoid using rosewood. I'd be buying from Musikraft via MJT for finishing, as they did such a good job of my Jazzmaster neck.

Musikraft's Braz Walnut is reclaimed from the old Coney Island Boardwalk, and apparently looks similar to rosewood and sounds a cross between rw and ebony.

Any experiences?

    Ipe?

Its very hard and dense so should make a good fretboard.

Yup, that's the stuff. It sounds great on paper, and looks good as far as I can tell from pictures of people's decking...!

My only concern is the colour, tbh, as it can get quite pale compared to rw. Other options are pau ferro or ebony. They have some pics of some lovely cocobolo in the outlet store, but that's not available on the custom necks.

Maybe I should drop them an email and stop fussing!

    Is this the one?

    It's a stunner!

If you're looking for Rosewood, Warmoth ship it abroad now,  but I think Musikraft may provide a CITES certificate for $40 more.

Yeah, that's the one, and the spec is exactly what I want, too. If it was a strat neck I'd have already bought it!

Equally if they were currently offering that fb wood I'd probably go that way.

As for choice of company, it's purely loyalty after they did such a good job with my JM's neck. It needed a smidge of extra edge-roll but is otherwise perfect.

Righto, I've found a couple of pics that show it's clearly a nice colour (see below) so I'm going for it, probably with quartersawn maple, med C shape, tall frets and heavily rolled edges

    Watch this space :)

Muskraft Brazilian Walnut is actually really really good...very impressed.

Looks and feels very similar to rosewood.

Yes, I’ve had it on a tele neck from them. Wasn’t for me, didn’t feel like rosewood under the fingers. More like the feel of ebony.

Happy to update from my side too. I’ve had it on my Strat for a couple of years now and really like it. I would say slightly snappier sounding and a little paler/redder than my old rosewood board but looks and feels good.

I think I have Zoolooter's old Musikraft Walnut neck and I'd agree that it feels slightly different to rosewood, the ebony comparison is a good one.  I love it and it looks gorgeous :-)
