Tone Knob vs. EQ Pedal

Would a low-pass filter, say on an EQ pedal, placed straight after the guitar have the same effect as a guitar tone knob?

Or is there some kind of electrical interaction from the knob actually being part of the circuit with the pickups?

I mean turning the tone knob down vs. having it at 10 with a lpf.

Different. The tone circuit interacts with the pickup, as you suspect.

You can probably get it to sound pretty similar though.
