Made a clear base for my Stewmac precision Dremel router base today.
Should be good for inlays and letting me see what is under the router.

We got asked by Mike at Small Wonder Music who does a lot of pearl work and inlay to make a new one for him so we made an extra one for ourselves.

We put a slight 45 degree bevel on the underside edges to help it glide without snagging

I'm thinking of making a variant with room for a couple of small handles to hold it by more easily.

  • Its a really fine balance to get enough stability from a router base and still see what you're doing.  Looks like you've cracked it.  I'd be interested to see a pic with the Dremel fitted.

I still might do a bigger base and have some little handles on the side
Saw that master inlay guy Larry Robinson's homemade router base uses violin tuning pegs glued in to do it

    Mmm. Foredom.

Nice work on the base there. If you do make some for sale I would be interested.

We only made the perspex bit - the upper part is Stewmac

Was thinking of getting our stewmac ones anodised for the fun of it

Ooh - we got a few of our new Feline Guitar straps come through
These are the Premium XL ones - extra long for low slung guitars and basses  (or for bigger built chaps)

    image

We have the of the regular length premium ones too but we've decided to get them re-done with a slightly bigger embossing as the ends of the regular premium ones aren't as tapered as the XLs
