RIP Wing Commander Tom Neil & Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Wellum

lasermonkeylasermonkey Frets: 1940
Tom Neil passed away on 11th July. He flew Hurricanes with No. 249 Sqn in the Battle of Britain and shot down 12 aircraft during the battle. He also took part in the battle for Malta.

Geoffrey Wellum passed away on 19th July and was the youngest pilot to serve with the RAF during the Battle of Britain, at just 19 years old. He flew Spitfires with No. 92 Squadron. He also went on to take part in the battle for Malta.

I believe that this leaves just six of The Few still surviving. Thank heavens they were there when they were needed.

Blue skies, gentlemen, and sleep well.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
I said maybe.....

Very sad. I saw the new Spitfire film/docu this week that features them both. Very moving, but both lived long and full lives after those extraordinary few years when they were so young.
