This development [and it's further development] might signal the end of playing music as we know it:

It's only the singer that's holo.

There's a live band with the full complement of gear.

    Panic ye not.

I wouldn't say it was total spoof, but there was something a bit fake about the live video.  Are we to believe that they can spin that out for a full performance?  The audience were all waving their glowsticks in a very enthusiastic and regimented fashion - their arms will get tired very quickly.  And the hologram doesn't do much - no walking around of course, and very little expressiveness overall.  Of course the Japanese are probably receptive to this sort of thing, but I can't see it catching on in the West any time soon.

This has been around for years. It's not a threat to music. It's another example of Japanese culture that is big there but not as much anywhere else.

It's a real girl providing the voice of the character. It's also the basis for the Korg Miku Stomp pedal which samples her voice so that people can "play along" and provide her vocals with guitar (as much as the latency of the pedal allows).

It's also pretty much the same idea as Gorillaz where there is a virtual band of manga characters but real musicians behind it.
