The A one's my fave. You are wise and have been recognised appropriately.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

I believe Kossoff used that A5 in All Right Now......

Not technically an open position but I like

    079900

for a held E5, not so much for quick changes/strumming (I like it less for strummy parts)

    I also like the 022400 E5

And the G5. As used in Motorheads Ace of spades

    *edit*

Why is this in the Guitars section?

I do tend to use this a lot for G  355033 I really like what the open G String does for this, works well in the F position as well.
Whoops, you meant in the Open Position. D'oh.:(

In that case, I use this quite a bit for D  2X032X or 2X0320 when I want a slightly different voicing.

    Plus 1 for the A5
I concur it should be in Technique.
    Don't touch that dial.

Your 355033 for a G5 from last week's Gmajor discussion was another goodie

    How do you play that?

    Thumb the low E string.

    1st finger  on high e & B strings

    3rd finger on A & D strings

Nicked from Rainbow's Since you've been gone

Next time you see me, I'll show you

I'd do 3rd finger on the A string, 4th finger on the D string instead

Also that voicing of G5, can be moved up to the 5th fret for a variation on the A7 (no 3rd)chord

It's used as a strummy chord in "Ordinary World", which I played at the Earl of Derby jam last week. Also isn't there an early-ish moody Metallica song with an E5 - D - C - B progression where that shape is strummed for the E5 and moved down the fretboard 2 frets at a time for the D and C chords?

It's not really a power chord but I really like x02200. Is that an A9 or sommat?

A5add9 but often played as an Asus2 leading into an implied or actual A x02220. I'll do another CotW sometime on open 5add9 chords - there are loads of good ones.

That could be any number of early Metallica songs. The one that's springing to mind is "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" which is (Clean) B5 C5 D5 with a low E and a D drone.

    Master of Puppets (Intro) is E5 (12th fret) D5 C#5 C5, then low E /B/Bb/A/Ab/G/F# riff.

    Both off the MOP album.

Leper Messiah off MOP has a silimlar descending power chord section (and inverted power chord section)
Feel free to ping me any other questons on these albums

That's the one. Moody interlude about 3 & 1/2 minutes in. 8:41 onwards in this link

I can't see the link at work, but (IIRC) the clean moody part is Em, Bm7, C, D, but it has been a while. I'll have a check later

    corrected, see below

To correct myself the part you're referring to is

    Em D Csus A(sus2) B D#5 (Played arpeggiated)

    CHords

    Em 0 2 2 0 x x

    D x x 0 2 3 0-2-0(Hammer/pull on high e)

Cadd9 x320x3x (The E note is only played at the end of the bar)

    Asus x0x20x

    B x2x20x

    D# xx120x

with a low G to turn back to the Em

Same part is played later with distorted guitars

    Hope this helps Bigjon
