Yeah I swear by elixirs. Have used them for 10 years now and, to me, they easily justify their price tag in comparison to uncoated strings.

This is probably because A) I'm lazy, and want to avoid changing my strings every other week. and B) I become a bit of a sweaty mess when I gig so probably destroy strings quicker than the average person.

'Limited Edition' is a marketing ploy.
Many of the Fender Short Run series instruments are definitely guilty of this. If the item is THAT desirable and the raw materials are readily available, why restrict the quantities?

When availability of the raw materials is genuinely limited, it is a different matter. There was only so much ex-railroad redwood for the Brown's Canyon / Old Growth Redwood Telecaster. Likewise, unless Paul Reed Smith finds some more old Brazilian sheds, there will be no more S2 Reclaimed Series.

    Be seeing you.

Only use Elixir nanowebs, prefer the feel as much as the saving of string changing.

Because the marketing ploy is to make people want something different.

Some people like the feeling of exclusivity - even if exclusivity means there’s ‘only’ a few thousand!

If they didn’t restrict the quantities the type of customer they want to attract wouldn’t be seduced into buying.

I recently found out people put their guitar in to a shop just to get the strings changed!

Boutique clones of old effects pedals, remade in brightly coloured or industrial looking cases. Limited edition pedal colours are also a great example of bullshit marketing
People like to collect special pedal runs, whys that bullshit marketing?
In respects to the OPs question, I would agree that limited edition versions of pedals are a waste of money, if they are more expensive. Hand painted ZVEX and JHS pedals especially spring to mind - it's not like they are even seen by anyone during a gig At least guitars are upfront and visible.

Anyway - I'd say those finger trainer grip things are a total waste.

I love my 335 (harley benton!) why are gibson 335s so expensive when they are seemingly made from sh1ttier wood than everything else, and some of its hollow anyway.
Because the raw materials are a small part of the cost of the guitar.

    It is mostly marketing.

    What is not worth it?

Not knowing what you want and compomise giving GAS free ability to run wild. That is not worth it!

  • Nomad string winder was the only thing I wasted money on so sent it back. My Tele tuners were too small for it. Didn't think much of the fret cleaner either.
