Pix to follow ASAP.

24 simultaneous tracks (384 virtual tracks for comping backing vocals, recording multiple takes, etc), mixer with flying faders and mix automation, Built-in dynamics and EQ processing for all inputs and all recorded tracks. If you add a mouse and keyboard and VGA screen (all sockets are there ready), you get DAW-like control over all settings, track drag-drop operations. waveform editing, etc.

Analogue IO runs to 16 inputs (8 with XLRs, one with guitar Hi-Z), multiple sends, two sets of headphones, etc.Digital IO includes: SCSI, R-BUS (two sets, for another 8in/out for each), SPDIF coaxial and optical, MIDI. If you want to connect it to your computer, there are a couple of options: use Roland's R-BUS to ADAT converter to connect to your interface; or use the RPC-1 PCI card to add an R-BUS connector to your PC. Bear in mind the latter, will involve some OS/driver shenanigans.

This was Roland's top-of-the-range digital multitracker, before standalone multitrackers were dumbed down. It's super capable, and with 24-bit, 96kHz capability, they're still used in many semi-pro studios. There's an active forum for them at VS Planet: http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=16&page=1

It was my back-up VS-2480, it's been sitting in a flight case, unused for a few years, got it out and it's in perfect working order. Some scrapes and small dents here and there, but not thrashed.

Price: £300, includes flight case, and printed docs.

Collection only from Cambridge.

(There's one reason why it's so cheap: the previous owner was a smoker. It's not stinky, but it's noticeable. Perhaps if it's out of the flight case for long enough it'll fade. But, as you can imagine, I CBA with Ebay eejuts on this point.)
