Ox vs torpedo live vs revival drive

What's Hot
Hi guys

I have a really nice home studio with excellent mics, pres and outboard etc. However, my wife is expecting and im likely to need to keep quiet to play and record.

I have a great attenuated amp, but I wouldnt want to mic and record with it at that level.

As I see it I have three spendy options

1) torpedo live

Sounds good but i hate menu diving and tweaking on 1u rack gear

2) ua OX.

Sounds good
Spendy, shelf life of perhaps 3 years?

3) revival drive
Love the sound, cool new toy
Still need IR etc. Not cheap .

Any opinions?

One other option is to use something like a Suhr Reactive Load along with IRs loaded up in your DAW of choice. It should work out considerably cheaper than any of the above.

  • Are you looking to spend on a new toy or keep it cheaper?

I have tried all of these and gotten good results. In fact, using these things is the only way I get to play with big amps in a tiny flat:

    Torpedo Live
    Suhr Reactive Load with IRs
    Torpedo Captor with IRs

The Suhr load is better than the Torpedo Captor IMHO, but the Captor is still great especially for the price.

I’m using a RD and a Mooer Radar IR loader to record at the mo. Very pleasing results to my ear at least. If you check out my last three Solo Of The Month entries #40, #38 and #37 on here you can hear how that sounds. See what you think.
