Suggest me a compressor.

I still haven't found a compressor in pedal form that I really like.

I've got a few here- Dynacomp, Analogman Comprosser and a Keeley 4 knob.
They all change the sound too much.
I'm looking for something quite transparent on the front end without any volume drop.

Was thinking the Cali 76 might be a good option but they are thin in the ground here.

If you want a compressor that can achieve what you after, THE FAT GENERAL covers this off. We currently have 15% off the V1 versions so £176 instead of £219.99

The new Boss CS-1X is the only compressor I've liked to date, great pedal with plenty of headroom unlike a lot of others.  The circuitry converts 9v to 18v internally, and it has a meter.

I have an Empress that I don't use anymore, you could have it for £185 delivered.

Thumbs up for the Fat General...it's become my "always on" pedal. It just makes everything sound better!

  • Maybe you just don’t need a compressor? I came to this conclusion after trying quite a few.

I kinda need to hear it with my rig.
As you can see I am a bit picky when it comes to compressors.
I'll give J Mave a call and ask when they have stock.

I am loving the Gunshot though- I have that and the KoT on my small gig board.

  • I recently got a Rothwell Love Squeeze. It's about as transparent as they come.

Checkout the Philosophers Tone ... any flavour.  I use the Micro and it's brilliant for what I need.  The Blend dial is really useful.

Sounds like you don't really need one.

I like the Wampler Ego Comp. it has a blend knob an it can be set from hardly there for my Gibson 335 to pretty squeezy for my Ric 12 and all in between in a musical way.

Suhr Koji. Love mine, can be transparent or obvious but you can choose with the various controls.

As I bass player I have use Darkglass supersymetry and it was very transparent, I think it could work with a guitar pretty well.
Cali are probably the best ones (for guitar and bass), have a look to ovnilab , it's probably the best webpage about compressors.

Think I'm right in saying they're all based around the CA3080 IC, so they'll all sound quite similar; warm sounding, plucky attack when maxed, dulled top end. For clean, efficient compression with no colouration, the Empress or Keeley Compressor Pro are both excellent. Another fave of mine is the Maxon RTC600 which has a 12ax7 valve gain makeup/boost on board,. You might find that one cheaper where you are possibly. Suhr Koji, Free The Tone Silky Comp, Barber Tone Press are all very transparent.
