I'm sure traidional furniture polish can damage some guitar finishes? Also can cause an issue if you ever need some or part of the guitar refinished at any point.

Pledge is full of silicon. Will damage the wood, you’ll never get it out of the nooks and crannies. Won’t do your electrics any good either.

Aerosol polish damages French polish. I use furniture wax sometimes, T Cut is good to shine up dull polyester.

  • Don't ordinary furniture polishes leave a waxy or oily residue? I found they did that when i was a teenager and more willing to use my mum's cleaning materials than to buy my own guitar polish. But hey, that was a long time ago and I've been using "Guitar Polish" ever since.

Silicon is major PITA when it comes to paint/touch-ups. A good carnauba car wax will be fine.

You know for Polyester or polyurethane a wipe down with a soft damp cloth works fine, I might use wax on mine if I'm bored during a set up or if it's new, modern finishes are quite tough.

I have to admit I do like polishing stuff. Something very satisfying about rubbing on a shellac finish and making something fairly bland look really nice.

This.  And used sparingly on nitro too.

I have to interject here (I have a PhD on the properties of silicon) - silicon is a crystalline metalloid element, often found in semiconductor devices. Silicones are polymerised silicon compounds analogous to organic chemicals (with silicon atoms where you'd expect to see carbon atoms), and are often found in household polishes, bathroom sealants and adult entertainment stars.

Gibson pump polish, works geat on all guitars, all finishes. Simply the best, and not too expensive either

On nitro I don’t think I’d use anything unless there was something you need to try and get rid of - on poly you can use anything at all and that finish will still be there

It's a bitch to get off if you ever need to respray too.
A furniture maker once told me never use pledge or anything like it on furniture.
    Use a damp cloth

    Oops, I dropped a Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Pledge contains silicone; silicone is a problem with repaint so don't use it if you might ever want to do that. It causes 'fisheyes' and is very hard to get rid of. It's not about the finish but what's in the wax/polish.
