Time for a biggie - as 5 of the open strings are from an Em7 chord there must be more possibilities for this one than any other chord we will cover!

Em formula 1 b3 5 = E G B, Em7 formula 1 b3 5 b7 = E G B D, common open position voicings are:

Em: 022000

Em7: 020000 or 022030

The most famous Em chord of the last 20 years is probably the Wonderwall chord, played with a capo at the second fret so it sounds as F#m7 - 

Em7: 022033

I'm sure someone with more musical theory than me will put me straight but I'd always been led to believe that a 9 chord contained the 2nd and the 7th?

Correct hence the add9 suffix when there is a 9th but no 7th

True, it's just that it has a tonal quality I find quite soothing. Is it still technically an E minor though, even with the duplication?

025xxx is a good power-chord-style Em chord to use with all three chord-tones present
