Fuzz Dog Tonebender mk II - anyone done this?

What's Hot
Hey I'm keen to give one of these a go. I want to daisy chain and want an LED, too. I'm a bit bewildered by the options though. They seem very busy so thought it better to ask here

  • I haven’t done that one from Fuzzdog but I have recently done 3 of their other pedals.
(One knob fuzz - coloursound clone, Omega treble booster and the sunny-t)

looking the tonebender pedal page there is a few options but otherwise fairly straight forward.

You will want to select the full kit including enclosure.

I would recommend the ribbon cable to link to the switch daughter board to make the link up simple.

and the transistors, ac128, to be included. Unless you already have some.

All you need to do then is decide which of the 3 circuit types you would like, depending on what voicing you would like from the pedal. Solasound, Marshall or Vox.

The LED is included and is usually mounted on the switch daughter board and pops through the pre-drilled hole in the case.

You’ll need the power pump board to convert the pedal power to centre negative. Then you can daisy chain the power.

Most of all make sure you have a good read through all the provided instructions before starting the build.

Thanks @DaveMon, I've done a few fuzzdogs but I'm a bit intimidated by the PNP thing and also it looks as if the pre-drilled enclosure has no hole for the LED

Tonebenders sound utterly amazing! I have to have one haha

  • Ah! I can only comment on the ones I have done and they have been pre drilled for the LEDs.

The PNP shouldn’t be an issue with the power pump board. It’s just something else to try and shoehorn into the case.

@DaveMon there must be a more elegant solution than gaffer tape. I just can't think of it :-)

Another option is to start drilling enclosures. It can't be that hard? I have a stash of discrete components so it would save me long term

How's the one knob fuzz and sunny T?

  • I think fuzzdog includes a printable template for the location of the holes needed in the cases, so getting the layout and spacing correct shouldn’t be too difficult.

Some nice quality metal drills, or possibly a hole step drill should make easy work of drilling the holes.

Loving the pedals I’ve done so far! They’ve replaced the big name pedals I used to have on my board. (MXR/ehx/way huge)
Always sure to get some comments when anybody looks at them, even better when they have a go and can’t believe the sound and the price!

@DaveMon yes and especially a great path to ownership of weird and wonderful fuzz circuits being as many of then are a) simple and b) hideously expensive.  Just started a recording project it's been so useful having various flavours of filth to hand

Good point about the drilling templates - I'll look into it.  Shouldn't be too hard to take the next step

and c) too messed up to use on an actual working pedal board ;-)

  • Just means you need to order one of each to test them all!
