    Yes, but more accurately, no.

  • I asked Keef and he said, ‘cacklelaughtcoughwheeze’ but he did it in open jaw tuning.

  • I watched the Voodoo Lounge live set that came out recently (I saw them on that tour) and Mick’s rapport with the audience is actually really poor. I was quite surprised watching it back as I would have been posting ‘yes’ in this thread otherwise.

I’d put Springsteen at the top of my personal list. Watch those legendary late 70s and early 80s shows and he was captivating back then (and still is).

  • For a narrow definition of rock and roll, I think there's an argument for them being the best ever band, although anyone who saw The Who or (outside nomination from me) The Georgia Satellites in their prime might differ.

And the greatest front man is Freddie. Mick doesn't even come close.

If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Depends what you mean by rock'n'roll, and greatest...

They're almost certainly the longest-lasting blues-based rock band ever.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

    "Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson

I think at their creative peak (late 60s to Goat’s Head Soup for me) they were just bloody brilliant. However, I don’t think anyone’s ‘the best’. But they’re up there for sure. One of ‘the best’ and certainly most influential.

  • No. The Who are a more likely contender in my opinion. I like some of The Rolling Stones songs but have always found Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman to be a bit of a docile rhythm section, I listen to some Stones songs and keep wanting them to drive the tunes harder with more vigour.

Ha, you’re really Jordan Peterson, and I claim my £5

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

One of the most important? Factually yes.
One of the most influential? Factually yes.
One of the best? Insert own opinion here.
    Mick the best frontman? Behave.

"Anybody can play. The note is only 20%. The attitude of the motherf*cker who plays it is  80%" - Miles Davis

I’d say a yes based on...

    Beggers Banquet
    Let it Bleed
    Sticky Fingers
    Exile on Main Street

Then when you consider their collection of singles prior to that period... they make a strong case

I can't relate to Springsteen and don't enjoy listening to his music.

That's the problem with these "greatest" threads - it's down to popularity/opinion...

Having seen them on the last tour where they didn’t have any album to plug, so played all their hits, they have a huge back catalogue of hits - enough for a 2.5 hour set, how many other bands can match that?
    Karma......

  • First time I saw the the Stones, I walked in a Richards fan and walked out a Jagger fan. Best frontman ever? Debatable, but the man works hard and gives it all he’s got.

  • I'd say its hard to argue they're not if you add a few parameters, my definition of Rock and Roll would cover Bill Haley up to maybe AC/DC?
    1. Coolness
    2. Longevity
    3. Line up
    4. Album sales
    5. influence

As for front men it gets a little trickier, i don't think its just about voice or looks,  my ultimate measure is would you want to be them,
