Was a great pity that he never had the opportunity, always seemed a man of measured opinion, rather than publicity pleasing knee-jerk reaction.

Seemed like a thoroughly good man to me and an excellent politician. I never supported the LIb Dems but he was always my favourite leader by a mile. Shame to see attempts at jokes in a tribute thread.

On a very short list of politicians who appeared to have integrity and know what they were talking about. Sad, RIP.

One of the few true and decent politicians I think we've had in my lifetime. Whether you agreed with his politics or not, it's hard to say that he wasn't at the very least, sincere. His kind are sadly lost to us now.

A role model I wish more politicians would follow. Thoughtful, calm and collected. Willing to compromise and collaborate, did not appear to be in it for the power.
Alas the people seem to want an authoritarian leader.

I disagreed with him strongly on Europe but he came across as a good man, and I think politics will be poorer for his loss. RIP.
