Albums you'd like a band to re-record

What's Hot

Put on ZZ Tops Eliminator album yesterday .. unlistenable .. it sounds so dated with the throbbing synths. However, there are some good songs on Eliminator and a couple of the other albums made in the 80s. Maybe the band should re-record the best songs minus the dated 80s cheese. Raw blues rock - could be good.

Any other albums you'd like to see re-recorded?

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

  • I’ll have a think...  Good idea for a thread.

It Bites fans may already be aware of this, but Francis Dunnery recently re-recorded a load of old It Bites tunes from when he was in the band. The album came out a couple of years ago, under his name, called "Vampires". It's rather good, well recorded and using more organic sounds instead of the slightly-dated tones of the time with the songs sounding better for it.

Dinosaur Jnr - Green Mind. Just make the bass audible.

  • Probably the first albums by The Specials and The Selecter which have horrible tinny production. Regathering the musicians who have now fallen out with each other or are dead might be tricky though.

I was listening to Cut by the Slits the other day which is roughly the same period and, I guess, similar kind of budget yet it sounds great. So, some poor decisions were made over at 2 Tone Towers.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

    This thread has prompted me to check out Eliminator. I love it. Thanks @Fretwired ;

Oasis - Definitely Maybe. Horrible high pitched scratchy mix.

  • Iron Maiden - Seventh Son. Re-recording it with the production of A Matter of Life and Death would fix the boxiness and total lack of balls.

Queensryche - the original EP and The Warning, for the same reason.

  • @stickyfiddle Have you listened to the US mix that was in the deluxe edition reissue.. Sounds much better imo.

The first Big Wreck album is unlistenable due to a really poor mix and production.

Extreme Pornagraffiti - the treble content is so high only dogs can here it.

Budgie- “Never turn your back on a friend”, I always thought the vinyl version I had sounded really quiet and lacked something

I haven’t, but will seek it out now.

In a similar vein, @mrkb might like the remaster of Def Maybe from a couple of years ago

I Hate the production on Soundgarden's Superunknown - thick muddy and horrible. Cornell sounds a million times better on the Temple of the Dog album.

Aztec Camera debut - wonderful songs, very weak production.

A "mature" student at Uni was livid at the production on the Stone Roses' first effort, in his opinion it was terrible. I couldn't then, and don't now, see a problem with it?

I love that album its top 3 all time for me and wouldn't change it, John Squire has said he would like to re-record it playing les paul's as the guitar sound isn't meaty enough for him.  Having heard Ian Brown sing I don't know how they got him to sing even nearly in tune.

Cheers - will check it out on Spotify. I always assumed remastered meant reissuing original with a few new tracks to extract more cash from the punters.

Yeah, it’s a bit of that as well, but definitely less “wall of noise” sounding

Metallica's '...And Justice For All' with Black Album production would have sounded mega.

  • From memory, I might have voted for MC5 "Back In The USA", but on listening again a few minutes ago, just to check, I would have been wrong. It's all treble and mids, focused and absolutely perfect. Back to the drawing board!
