Albums you'd like a band to re-record

  • George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" without Phil Spector's production
The Beatles (well, Parlophone, anyway) put out "Let It Be - Naked" after removing the Phil Spector work. Much better in my opinion, but a job already done, so no rerecording required.

The Black Sabbath albums sound like shit. Can Giles Martin have a go?

I'd go for the Manics - Generation Terrorists with decent mixing / mastering and real drums rather than a drum machine.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

  • Lizzy - Nightlife.
'Vot eva happened to the Transylvanian Tvist?'

  • Nevermind with Steve Albini rather than Butch Vig, and the original Steve Albini In Utero mix without record company interference.
If you can read this then my time machine works.

     My feedback thread is here.

The Hold Steady - Boys & Girls in America

Love it but it sounds muted.

Prob just needs a remaster really to let the top end through and give it a bit more punch

Metallica's '...And Justice For All' with Black Album production would have sounded mega.
Ride the lightning production would be better.

I seem to recall that the die hard Nirvana fans all used to prefer Wipe out to Nevermind back in 91.

Eno’s Here Come The Warm Jets. Love the album but the sound is muffled and lacks clarity. Strange that he has such a rep as a producer, as the sound on his early efforts is often lacklustre.

  • MBV's Loveless, mainly to do something about those godawful drum sounds.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

I'll probably get flamed for this, but Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits.  DS are my all time fav band BTW.

The songs are good, very good, but they are drowned by the production, it just sounds a bit clinical.  Side two less so than side one, but still......

I think some of the songs go on a bit too, especially MFN.

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

    Bit of trading feedback here.

Steely Dan have been doing some dates where they play the whole of a Steely Dan or Donald Fagen album. I would love to have a live album of those shows (or a good bootleg) because I think the current musicians in the band are great.

But there is one allbum remake that I rate. I consider the (Acoustic) remake of Jagged Little Pill to be better than the original album. It is also beautifully recorded.

I Hate the production on Soundgarden's Superunknown - thick muddy and horrible. Cornell sounds a million times better on the Temple of the Dog album.

Aztec Camera debut - wonderful songs, very weak production.

Totally disagree about Superunknown, in engineering circles it's considered a classic, particularly due to the amazing drums sounds and non-hyped mastering. I'd recommend listening on a great set of speakers, it's epic.

    Metallica Master ofPuppets.

Its a great album, but it’s muffled. Sounds like it’s underwater compared to Ride the Lightning.

  • Nightwish to let Floor do alternate album versions of every other album she’s not on.

We’ve discussed this before. Agree, amazing sounding album.

What I would change is get Matt Cameron to re-record the drums on Badmotorfinger to sound as incredible as they do on Superunknown. Nothing wrong with the playing but the drums on BMF sound a bit dull and lifeless in comparison.
