New bass day. Help confirm the year

I purchased a pretty rough Korean Squier P/Bass today which I have spent the evening rewiring, taking the stupid sticker remnants off and stripping the whole guitar and bits off and thoroughly cleaning. I'm pretty sure it's made in the Samick factory, I believe it to be 1991 but not sure, is there anyone that can confirm or tell me otherwise.

Not sure about the date - although it does look like early 90s - but that's hilarious!

It actually reads Schaller not Sperzel, but either way they are absolutely bog-standard cheap bass tuners. (Which work perfectly well.) Licenced to print money is more accurate...

Oops yep Schallers not Sperzels! They feel a lot better than the ones you get on today's Squiers. There old, all old stuff is good right??

Yes, the gears do wear in - luckily quite a long time before they wear out :).

It's also likely the quality of them has fallen - the factories are always looking for ways to make things cheaper… it's obvious that those ones do have pins holding the keys into the slots, whereas many newer ones don't, and they can come out if the tiny spot-weld breaks. (Assuming there is actually a weld and they're not just held in by the plating ;).)

:) Im going to replace the scratch plate with a black pearloid one, I reckon I could easily get £150-£180 if I was looking to sell, Il probably keep it with all the other basses and guitar that I plan to fix up and sell on... ;)

I've got a fixer-upper incoming of almost identical vintage (yep, you're right - as far as I'm aware 1991 Samick) - you reckon they're worth that much? May even turn a profit on this one if so...

Yea there's a 96 anniversary PBass on feebay atm at £189 admitidly it has no dings or dents and mine has lots but still think so. I paid £50 for mine, £15 on a scratch plate, all the wiring bits I already had from my stock of parts and 2 hours of elbow grease so it owes me £65. Bargain!
