Dumble-esque pedals - what's good and what's meh?

for the smooth smooth overdrive, Zendrive was the best I tried, v2 with the valve was even better

Wiz Pedal Model D is brilliant. Easily best of the ones I have owned, definitely a never sell pedal. Clean channel on it is amazing also.

getting that 'Dumble sound' is as much about the style and delivery of what you play.

The otherwise humble Kokko Tube Screamer Overdrive gives a great rendition when the gain is wacked up the dusty end (for a TS) and you get that languid, viscous-liquid, drenched tone. However, I have no use for that sound.

The sound you get from *any* "Dumble" pedal will depend on a) the signal chain before the pedal (guitar, pickups, other pedals), and b) the signal chain after the pedal (other pedals, amp - clean, crunchy, etc).

I've tried a few - SImble, Euphoria, Aroma mini Dumbler (£21!) - and could get a great "Dumble" sound front all of them, if I tweaked them to suit the signal chain they were in. I ended up keeping a cheap Zendrive clone, as it was the most cost effective (the Aroma pedal *sounds* OK, but the knobs are a bit fiddly).

You really have to suck it and see, and see how you can get on with a pedal in your own rig.

Zendrive into a Fender combo is close enough for most people.
It is my preferred option as well.

from what I've seen that "just" nails the smooth thing - and it's not necessarily about that

I'd certainly look into it as you're a very respected member, the EL34 thing is certainly worth noting, however the Hampstead isn't as "Marshall voiced" as your more generic EL34 amps, and interestingly I've never tried it with the Hampsteads before, but I have tried the bigger iron Hampsteads (superb amps, great purchase !) I can make a guess at some pedals that may work for you. could you give me one or two artists or tracks that you think "that sort of ball park" so I get an idea of the sound you've got in your head. 

I'm pretty sure that we'll either get you the ball park you want or crush once and for all if you want one of these pedals

just watched their video - that way they describe the voice control is exactly what the Zendrive does (trades gain for low end) - wonder if is a Z clone?
