I’ve been listening to that Marc Rebillet chap a lot...

I’ve realised I’ll never be as cool as him.

    Very impressive Martin.
Were all the guitar sounds from the zoom thing on the desktop?
What else was used in making that track - a rig run through would be interesting.
What did you pre plan, and what was made up on the fly?

    Karma......

Impressive .. enjoyed that ... love to know the process.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

    ^ Thanks.  Good idea.

The heart of the setup is a Boss RC-202, a tabletop looper with inputs for instruments, mic, and aux.  It's also got a built-in basic drum machine which can quantise loops and get them exactly in time.  I generally fiddle around until I get an idea, use the tap tempo to fix the beat and then go for a proper take.  The key to looping is not to take too long to get the parts down, and getting it right first time which is easier said than done.  The synth is a fairly cheap Korg Triton Taktile which has all the Triton sounds in, including a load of drum kits.  And the guitar is via a Zoom MS-50G because it's small and sounds decent.

Maybe easier to watch the video I did which explains everything:

Yep the MS-50G is doing the guitar sound.

The rig run through is in the video above.

I just mess around until the bones of an arrangement are there and then try and do a proper take from scratch.  So I know how things are going to start, but not necessarily where they're going to go!  So the chuggy bass riff, the higher riff, and the drum parts I knew what I was going to do, then it's just a case of widdling and after a minute or two trying to engineer a breakdown to give some dynamics.
