2004 Gibson DC Special with a slim taper 60s neck profile and some epic mods
 

Lollar P90 pickups, CTS pots and big fat Orange Drop capacitors.

Refinished in relicked Candy Apple Red with some (really hard to photograph!) spider web type checking on the front, a copper patina Raygun truss rod cover and 5 ply black pickguard.
Yes, it plays as beautifully as it looks too.
REALLY didn’t think I’d be parting with this one but off it goes...

Ridiculously high quality guitars for the cash and this one is an absolute delight. In short, if you’re on the hunt for a LP type axe without any of the awkwardness and weight a LP can bring? This is a no brainer.

A couple of mods to mention: the push/pull pot for the (highly usable) Dry Switch has been changed to a push/push - it’s a mod I do to all my guitars because I find it an easier, faster way to “pop” between switching options and the high gloss neck has been lightly sanded for a more satin feel - doesn't go through the paint though. . It's in great nick with a tiny bit of buckle rash on the back but otherwise in top condition.

Cheers guys - it’s a gorgeous Dc that’ll I’ll probably kick myself for selling at some point...but when SG GAS hits there’s no escaping it!

Interesting.... I've always been curious about the Revstar range and kinda see the 820 and 620 as being kinda like an SG. What would an SG give you that the Yamaha isn't at the moment?

That’s an exellent question @Dontgiveupyourdayjob so I have to hold my hands up, take a big deep breath and confess that part of my SG GAS is about looking down and seeing that bound neck and those trapeziod inlays when I’m playing. Those visuals tell my brain “you’re playing a GIBSON” and that makes me play different riffs and come up with different types of songs. Yep, it’s shallow but fhhk it, there it is! I play Strats most of the time so looking at a different fretboard definately brings inspiration. Moving SWIFTLY along...:D..a marginally less humiliating factor is that my ears prefer the 57 Classics on the SG to the Yamaha humbuckers - but that’s always a personal thing.
