What's Hot

Obviously there's a lot of guitarist that can play fast but I thought in this thread we could share some examples of great technique that show a lot of skill. I'm gonna start with a well known one, Jerry Donohue from the Equinox program from the late eighties ... it still amazes me now.

What else is there ?

I loved Equinox and JD, I watched that when it was broadcast.

Awesome chops indeed and clean as a whistle playing wise.

Well spotted and it takes me back.

Starting off in a similar vein but ending up with a Zep rock out, this video demonstrates the amazing talent and personality of Greg Koch. Great stuff...

And the fact he was about 12 at the time.

    And who needs a trem???.....(well me :S)

EDIT- Ahh sorry just read the "players who can play fast bit"...whoops. I'm going to leave the Becker clip though, the more people that see it the better.

Have a stanley jordan to readdress the balance.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I always thought this was amazing. Pretty original sound. Main tune starts about 0.55. Guitar I'm talking about starts at about 1.25.

I picked up a vinyl album by Juan Serrano at a yard sale years ago, astounding technique!

Huge kudos to the O.P for posting Jerry. I remember that programme being broadcast in 1987 when I was 15, I'd just started playing Guitar and that guy blew my mind, even though "that" music, at the time, "wasn't my bag".

So, back to my example, it might be predictable, but here it is.

This funky Mofo has got it all, he has played session on so many recordings, as a Rhythm player, going back 30 years or more, and he can produce wonderful solo work like this.

    He Rules (kind of)

Tim Collis of This Town Needs Guns blows my mind. Have had the pleasure of playing with them a fair few times over the years, and he doesn't even look like he's trying.

I was introduced to Raul Midon on R4 this morning.

Playing guitar, bongos and singing whilst emulating a trumpet.

    Insane.

Relented. ;) This is Eddie's solo from the Live without a net video. He packs just about all his techniques into one solo. It's basically THE clip you need if you want to understand his astounding lead methods. If anyone's got a great clip for all his rhythm techniques that'd be good! :)

The bit at about 9:30 in the EVH clip is awesome.

Never heard anything quite like that before.

Is it the slapping bit? I haven't got signal. It's from his album fair warning if so - it's a really different album.

They look like locking banjo (de) tuners.  They are set to allow a tone shift.  The string is locked in tune, and the tuner itself turns by a tone (or a semitone) without altering the main tuning.  Still impressive playing, but it won't lose its tuning by shifting the pegs.
