Removing Decal From Pickups

What's Hot
I have a couple of Seymour Duncan HB pickups on my Strat. I'm thinking of removing the white SD logo from them as it rather spoils the look IMO.

Is there a recommended way of doing this?

The logo is pad printed ink not a decal. Choose a solvent that will loosen the ink without harming the bobbin.

Better still, replace the printed pickup covers with plain ones. Sell the logo covers to a sucker for designer labels.

  • I've had success with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) spray, a cloth and lots of elbow grease. I always remove logos - some have taken less elbow grease than others to remove but they have all gone eventually.

I'm not so keen on how my Strat looks hanging on the wall when you look at the pickups ...

  • Manufacturer logos on pickups always look rubbish. I hate them no matter how much I like the brand. It's even more annoying on humbuckers, where you can't change the bobbins. I'd remove all mine, but I suspect the secondhand market wouldn't react well to a logo-less JB, and I've learned from experience that I'm unlikely to keep any pickup forever.

  • Thanks so much everyone for your responses.

I think I'll just clean them off rather than trying to sell the covers.

I rarely swap out and sell guitar stuff, so I won't worry about resale value.

    Thanks again!

  • Twenty minutes with a jay cloth and toothpaste, and my pickups have no logo.

    None more black.

    Cheers all!

T-Cut also does this very well.

It makes no difference to the second hand value unless they’ve been obviously scratched off.

Bottom line - famous brand name OEM pickups help to sell mid-price guitars. Hence, the need to shout about them in catalogues and on shop displays.

Overall, I think that I prefer the DiMarzio approach where a tiny logo is discretely embossed into the plastic. It is visible close up but undetectable at a distance.

Why do they bother putting logos on, it always looks naff.

[no need to reply, I do actually know why they put logos on]
