Sale - £1050

Will consider trades for latest 12.9 iPad with at least 128Gb storage

OR
  • PRS DGT.
  • Top spec/equivalent Telecaster with rosewood neck.
  • Top spec or equivalent Strat with flatter ( 9.5 , 10 " or compound radius) neck.
Any of the above guitars must be 7.5 pounds or less in weight.

This is an opportunity to grab an increasingly rare signature Mark Knopfler Strat.

Please be aware that this is a late 2004/early 2005 model that has had a replacement neck. I don't know the reason for the neck replacement as I am not the original owner. However I can vouch that the guitar has been stripped and checked by one of the best luthier's in the country who has confirmed to me that the guitar is a genuine 2004/2005 Knopfler signature Strat and the neck is a genuine Knopfler signature neck from 2012. The guitar also does not have a case.

What I can say is the guitar is about 7 1/2 pounds in weight and plays and sounds superb. There are some marks and minor chips around the neck pocket and on the body but minor and expected for a 15 year old guitar with a nitrocellulose finish. It feels and plays like you would hope and expect an old 60's Strat does which is what Mark Knopfler's original is.

I have had the second tone pot rewired so that you can alter the tone setting on the bridge which you couldn't previously. The 5 way selector and volume pot have recently been changed and upgraded to Callaham ones and the guitar has recently been checked out and set up by Charlie Chandler.

I am happy for anyone to come and try the guitar with no commitment.

These very rarely come up and are appear to be sought after.

The last two on E-Bay have sold for £2250 and £1900.

Why am I selling?

I mostly play acoustic these days. I am struggling with the difference between my flat wider  fretboard on my acoustic and the vintage 7.25 radius of this lovely Strat.
I have two other electrics which are both Teles with flatter radius neck/fingerboards.
My go to guitar is a telecaster.

Fender blurb:

Fender produced the Mark Knopfler Signature Stratocaster between 2003 and 2013 and the guitar is now considered a collector’s item.

The unmistakable tone of the Fender Mark Knopfler Stratocaster comes from three Texas Special single-coil pickups and a five-way switch. Fender/Gotoh vintage tuners and an American vintage tremolo system round out this Sultan of Swing. Also includes a tremolo arm.

Paul - no problems at all and I fully understand. I have been totally upfront and honest. I bought the guitar from a person known to me through a mutual friend. I subsequently had some work done on the guitar by Charlie Chandler who I also consider a friend. Charlie is an acknowledged expert luthier and has worked on some of the most famous strats in the world including Gilmour's Clapton's and Beck's to name a few.
I asked Charlie about it and he stated it is exactly the right spec, parts and makeup and in his opinion checks out - including the neck. When I questioned about the neck he replied that it is not that unusual to replace a neck due to damage, faults etc and again said in his opinion it is a genuine 2012 Knopfler neck. Several guitarists have played the guitar and marvelled about how good it is. I have good feedback both on this forum and on EBay etc. Unfortunately I don't play or need it at the moment and really need to finance a new(er) iPad. I predominantly play acoustic these days and if I pick up an electric it 'tends to be my old Jap tele which I have had forever. Knopfler signature strats fetch up to £2000 so I feel I have priced it appropriately given all the circumstances. I am also more than happy for anyone to come to my place and play it and check it out without any firm commitment to buy. I would only be happy selling to someone who has checked it out, played it and loves it. I have had numerous strats over the years and in my opinion this is a real cracker regardless of it being a Knopfler signature model. As I say the only issue I have which us not a fault is I find the 7.25 vintage neck radius difficult to get used to.
    Hope that answers your concerns.
    Kind regards....Jim.
