Pickups For Another Flavour

What's Hot

I put P90s in a LP style guitar because I already have one with PAFs. I already have a Strat too and am very happy that they're all significantly different flavours.

So if I wanted to add a new pickup type to the family, what would be best to go for that is again significantly different enough to be its own thing next to those 3?

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

That was one of my first thoughts - would they be different enough from PAFs (once amp gain has been compensated for) to be a separate option as much as, say, P90s?

    Yes. More so, in fact.
