Great explanation video for Diminished 7th Chords

BranshenBranshen Frets: 1222
There have been previous discussion on this forum regarding the lesser-used diminished 7th chords, but they have been mostly limited to voicings and their moveability.

Here's a great video that discusses building of these chords, followed by invaluable discussion of their function within a chord progression.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. It was hearing a diminished 7th in blues that started me on a tentative jazz trail, so I'm not sure whether to love it or hate it! It's probably fair to say that I love it, but anyone that hears me play hates it.  =)

    Nice video
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Useful to understand the relationship between dim 7 and dom 7 chords. Flatten any note in a dim 7 by a semitone and you get a Dom 7. So a dim 7 can generate four different Dom 7 chords.

If you start at the first fret and play it chromatically up to the 6th fret you get the intro to Ghost Town by the specials
