Anybody that picks up a guitar and does their best to express themselves/communicate is ok in my book. Why all the ‘overrated’ etc posts? 

If I meet someone and find out they play then it’s a bonus.

People just like to categorise, systemise and rank stuff. It's all quite meaningless in the end, especially comparing people from different eras. It's best not to take it too seriously.

People tend to like having their existing opinions on any given topic reinforced. People tend to dislike having their existing opinions on any given topic challenged. 

Any "evidence" that agrees with those existing opinions will be cherry-picked and highlighted. Any that does not agree will be rejected and/or belittled.


Strangely, there is a parallel phenomenon in which some music listeners like bands during the early, obscure, unsigned phase of their career arc but claim to actively dislike them after they become widely commercially successful.

Thats definitely true but there are also tons of bands who dont have more than 1 or 2 good albums in them.
