Am7: x02010 but I prefer Am7: x02213.

Because all the open strings belong to an Am scale, there are virtually limitless possibitilies for crunchy sounding Am chords utilising the open strings, eg

to get the chiming major second between the A and B notes

In return, I've suggested that if you rearrange it two strings down and add the D at fret 12 on the fourth string, you can play an Am11 chord as a scale run from G up to E with major and minor seconds all the way!

Am11: 17 15 12 0 0 0 (pick strings in order 3 6 2 5 4 1)

A-7 fingered the "cheat" way: fretting 5x5555 - 2nd finger plays 6th string and mutes 5th, 3rd finger part-bars across strings 4,3,2 (and 1 if you can arrange it otherwise use pinky). easy to get to (& back) from D-9 (x5355x) fingered 2134

I use this fingering about 50% of the time, otherwise Phil's. If I'm adding a 9th, though, this one get's my vote - 

Am9: 5x5557 (or 575557 is viable)
