    Yes, I'm using it.
Also one of the original Notator guys- and I was a beta-tester of Logic V2 until V6 (until the Apple buy-out).

Loving LPX- I can have some truly staggering track and plugin counts now.

Ah the ahem wonderful Emagic days...

I'm using Pro Fool more nowadays, but X seems pretty stable.

I'm tempted by Logic X but Logic 9 for me is just so unstable. Core Audio fail is driving me insane with just a couple of plug ins and tracks. BFD2 seems to cause the most issues but not always, which is kinda why I look at X and wonder if Drummer can ever really replace BFD2?

My gear is more than capable of handling what i'm throwing at it in theory, and even when I do get CPU spikes on Logic I check my CPU usage and it's at 93% idle......

    still tempted though...

Sounds like your Mac is the issue more than Logic 9.

You may want to trash the Logic plist files and get the OSX install checked out. Try opening Logic under a new user rather than the current account its in.

    Definitely.
Logic 9 has been incredibly stable for me- running very large 100 track projects with many plugins on all channels.
Much more stable then Pro Tools 10 has been. PT11 seems to be better.

    I haven't had Logic crash since about version 5.5 / 6.

So if 9 is acting unstable, it is likely one of the following audio card drivers, plugin unstable, OSX unstable, Logic preferences or Mac has hardware issue.

Easiest way to check is do what I suggested in my earlier post.

Then if its still misbehaving then check all drivers and plugins for updates / newer versions.

Worst case scenario is your Mac has bad RAM or is fubar.

Cheers guys. Now then, trashing "plist files". Sorry for my ignorance but how do I do that?

    I'm using a mid 2011 imac, quad 2.8 i7 with 4gb ram and a 7200 drive.

I'm not the only one either, there's a lot of people on other sites/forums having the same issue so all your help is really appreciated.

So what is everyone's experience of Drummer?  How easy is it to program your own patterns in, is there preset loops to weed through etc....?

Is it a competitor for BFD, SD etc....?

You definitely need more RAM for starters. At least 8GB minimum really.

The plist file is found in User Library in Preferences Folder. It will say com.apple.logic.plist or similar. Just put it in the trash, you don't need to empty trash, just put it in. Launch Logic and it will rebuild the plist file.

See, I thought about more ram, 16, possibly 32 but I only use it in 32bit with some of my plug ins and 32but can only use 4gb if I'm not wrong?

    Sort of.
32bit Logic itself can only address 4GB of RAM but the OS uses more and the EXS plugin (and some others) can address up to an additional 4GB of RAM as they use their own RAM allocation.

I wouldn't try running Logic with under 8GB of RAM myself.
What plugins are you using that are not 64 bit compatible?
    Are you running cracks?
(Just want to understand what is going on, not laying blame)

When was the last time you did a fresh install of the OS.
    What speed is your HD?

FWIW My rig is a 2010 Mac Pro 2.8 ghz with 10GB RAM- slower than your iMac and I have had no problem doing big mixes.

I did find an article which was discussing about ram swaps, which is using a part of your hard drive in place of ram when using intensive loads.

Only one crack; bfd, which was as I wanted to try it before I spent £200 on it, and even though it sounds great, it's had issues hence not bought it yet.  The aubridge is ok but I suspect that's not helping either.

The OS was installed when Lion came out over app store, my internal drive is 7200 and I don't record to external...yet..

    So you are using Lion?
I would upgrade to Mountain Lion doing a fresh install and reinstall all apps and plugins, using the latest updates for everything.
I do this once every 6 months unless I am in the middle of an album.

BFD is a great product- definitely worth a purchase.

And more RAM, as mentioned earlier.

Mountain Lion installed, marginally better performance.
Extra 16gb of RAM due to land today from Crucial taking me up to 20.
BFD2 only £116 at the minute from Andertons..hhmmmmm......
A 256gb SSD Thunderbolt drive about £275.....will leave that one last I think.

Whatever happened to dreaming about guitars, effects and amps!!??

I guess the question is, after all this will I really need X?

    I'm going to say yes.
The new drummer app is ridiculously cool.
I will always prefer to use a real drummer but the drummer app is a completely new concept and takes all the work out of quickly mocking up drums for tracks.
    I'm using it a lot.

Also Logic X is fully 64 bit with no 32bit bridge- this is a good thing.
The 32 bit bridge was a buggy piece of shit and I don't miss it at all.
You can open Logic sessions as far back as 5- Logic 9 could only open 7 onwards.
Metering is improved, the new synths are cool.
    Summing stacks are great.
Smart controls are well thought out.
    Flex Pitch is great.
Logic remote is one of the best implementations of iPad integration I've seen- it works perfectly and I'm considering getting rid of my hardware controller (Avid Artist) it works so well.
Considering it is £130 for the full version- which is the price of less than my plugins- it is pretty incredible.
