I like them all but I keep finding uses for cut-down versions eg what I call the "D7" shape on the top 3 strings which for a root of C and spelt 5 b7 3 would have to be xxx12 11 12. xxx557 spelt R 3 b7 is also good.

Otherwise the barred E-shape in the 9th position going into the A-shape for F9 also in the 9th position

I've just been practicing different voicings for chords D, C & G in the chorus of She Sells Sanctuary.

On a single guitar it's hard to balance the drone-note open D string melody with the driving 16th note chords and then the signature big G chord that makes it all hang together.

So I experimented and tried these two fingerings for the D and C chord in the chorus:

D chord:

G 7

D 0

A 5

E x

and for the C chord ..... (and so on to the subject of the thread)

D x

A 3

E x 

 

It plays like a jangly power-chord but it has just the 1st an 3rd compared to a power chord having 1st and 5th.
